gabe bumagat
is...
a filipino-american composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist who experiments with new ideas in music while taking inspiration from a range of foundational sources. originally from ewa beach, hawaii, gabe is currently based in boston at berklee college of music, continuously working on his musical expertise and knowledge through collaboration, composition, and compassion. his compositions and arrangements examine modern issues by using universal stories from our history, expressing these stories through melody, texture, and rhythm. through his music and artistry, gabe hopes to create meaningful experiences for himself, his audience, and his collaborators by exploring how music can be used to deepen our connection to each other, the world around us, and our collective histories.
gabe’s foray into the artistry of music began at the early age of 7; his parents would put him through vocal and piano lessons, and though he gained a higher love of music through these short lived experiences, it was not until joining his middle school band that gabe’s musical journey truly began. here, gabe fully delved into the practice of composition and arranging, writing pieces for his fellow band members through the sheer force of his boundless curiosity and passion for music. going into high school and into college, this extreme passion and curiosity for music has not stopped, as is still evident in his exploration for ideas and sounds in all types of music from all across the globe.
currently, gabe is working towards graduating berklee with a bachelor’s degree in both composition and jazz composition, taking many classes, collaborating with many peers, and listening and taking inspiration from many kinds of music in order to grow his musical expertise and love for the medium. gabe is also currently the keyboardist for the boston-based indie rock band simon amaya price, contributing in the arranging and songwriting process. at the moment, gabe is composing a piece about the filipino diasporic experience for string quartet, adding onto his collection of original works.
